The fire which started in Lockhart's Saloon (38 North Main Street) on the night of April 28, 1892, destroyed all the wooden buildings then standing on this block.  Only a dawn rainstorm and the brick walls of Adelphian Hall, which stood on the corner of Clinton Street, stopped the flames from spreading north.  A 1911 fire, in turn, took the building which replaced Adelphian Hall.  The present building was erected by J. W. Ellsworth in 1912.  Saywell's Drug Store has been serving ice cream sodas here continuously since.  Next Stop: Walter Wright Store
